How to Earn Free Showers at Pilot with 28 Gallons of Fuel
Driveaway drivers with smaller fuel tanks can use a commercial Pilot rewards account to earn one full shower credit after purchasing 28 gallons of fuel through two separate 14-gallon transactions.
After more than 20 years in the driveaway business and conversations with thousands of drivers, we have found that many transporters still do not know they may be able to earn a free shower at Pilot or Flying J after purchasing only 28 gallons of fuel.
This guide is especially useful for new drivers, non-CDL drivers, and CDL drivers who sometimes transport smaller commercial vehicles. Tractor drivers commonly earn a shower credit through a single 50-gallon commercial diesel purchase. Drivers moving package cars, box trucks, step vans, delivery trucks, buses, and other smaller units often cannot fit 50 gallons in the tank.
The published rule and the driver method are different
Pilot publicly advertises one shower credit for a qualifying commercial diesel purchase of 50 gallons or more. Pilot does not publish the two-part 14-gallon method described in this article. The 28-gallon method comes from repeated driveaway-driver experience at locations around the country, so always confirm each half credit on the receipt or in the Pilot app.
The 28-Gallon Method Helps Drivers With Smaller Fuel Tanks
A single 50-gallon fill works well for a tractor or another large commercial vehicle. It does not help when the vehicle only needs 28 to 40 gallons. Many UPS-style delivery vehicles, package cars, box trucks, and step vans carry tanks in the approximate 30-to-48-gallon range, depending on the vehicle and tank configuration.
New and non-CDL drivers
The method can reduce road expenses for drivers who are still learning how commercial travel-center rewards work.
CDL drivers moving smaller units
A CDL driver may transport a tractor on one trip and a smaller box truck or delivery unit on the next.
Package car and step-van transporters
These vehicles often need enough fuel for the two-part method but may not accept a qualifying 50-gallon fill.
Drivers paying for showers
A rewards credit can prevent a driver from paying the regular shower price during a long route.
Start With a Commercial Pilot Rewards Account
Get a free Pilot rewards card intended for commercial drivers. A team member can provide one at a participating Pilot Travel Center or Flying J location. Connect the card to an account, and download the Pilot app when you want to monitor points, shower credits, receipts, offers, and shower reservations.
Pilot says the app is not required for standard point earning. You can swipe the physical card at the pump. The app remains useful because it places your transaction history and shower balance in one location.
Connect the rewards account before the fuel begins
Swipe the commercial card, scan the app, or use Mobile Fueling before pumping. A transaction completed without the rewards account attached may not add points or shower credit.
Complete Two Separate 14-Gallon Transactions
The transactions must remain separate. Do not pump all 28 gallons as one continuous purchase when testing this method. Closing the first purchase allows the rewards system to post the first half credit.
Purchase 14 gallons and close the sale
Pump 14 gallons of diesel or regular fuel, return the nozzle, complete the transaction, and print the receipt. The receipt should show the points earned and a 0.5 shower credit.
Confirm the first half shower posted
The 0.5 shower cannot be redeemed by itself. It confirms that the first part of the method worked. Do not assume the credit posted without checking the receipt or app.
Reconnect the card and add at least 14 more gallons
Start a new transaction, connect the same commercial rewards account, and top off the vehicle with at least 14 more gallons. The second half credit may combine with the first one and create one full shower credit.
The receipt is the confirmation
Check the first receipt before completing the second purchase. When no half credit appears, the method may not be available for that transaction, account, fuel type, pump, or location.
The Official 50-Gallon Shower Credit Still Applies
Pilot's published commercial-driver benefit provides one free shower credit after a qualifying commercial diesel purchase of at least 50 gallons. Drivers transporting tractors and other large units can usually earn the credit in one transaction.
The 28-gallon process does not replace the official benefit. It gives drivers with smaller tanks a practical way to test whether two half credits are available on their account.
Shower Credits Remain Available for Up to 10 Days
Pilot states that each shower credit is valid for up to 10 days and covers one shower. Track the balance and expiration dates through the Pilot app so older credits do not disappear before they are used.
After arriving at a participating location, a driver can join the shower line through the app, an in-store kiosk, the Pilot website while logged in, or a team member at the register. The app can show the driver's place in line and provide updates when the shower is ready.
A shower can still be purchased without a credit
Drivers without a shower credit or Shower Power can pay at the register with an accepted payment method or eligible rewards points. Pilot says a paid shower cannot currently be purchased through the app without a credit or Shower Power.

Activate each month and level up with qualifying commercial diesel fills of 50 gallons or more.

Fuel 1,200 gallons in one month, then activate Elite the next month to begin earning four points per gallon.
Shower Power
Fuel 1,000 gallons in one month to receive one free shower per day for the rest of that month and the following month.

PushForPoints Can Increase the Points Earned Per Gallon
The standard commercial rewards level begins at one point per gallon on eligible commercial diesel. Drivers can activate PushForPoints each month through the Pilot app or website. Qualifying 50-gallon fills can raise the account's earning level, with Pilot advertising up to four points per gallon after six qualifying fills.
The normal earning level resets to one point per gallon each month. PushForPoints Elite changes that reset for high-volume drivers. After fueling 1,200 gallons in one month, a driver can activate Elite the next month and immediately begin at four points per gallon.
Elite activation is still required each month. Drivers must continue reaching the monthly fuel requirement to maintain the benefit.
Shower Power Gives High-Volume Drivers a Daily Shower
Fueling at least 1,000 gallons in a month can unlock Shower Power. Pilot describes the benefit as one free shower each day for the rest of the qualifying month and the entire following month.
A driver with Shower Power can continue earning individual shower credits from qualifying 50-gallon commercial diesel purchases. When the daily Shower Power benefit has already been used, an available individual credit can be used for another shower.
Reward Points and Other Pilot Savings Add Up
Pilot reward points can be used for eligible food, drinks, selected merchandise, showers, parking, and other purchases covered by the current program terms.
Auto and RV fuel offer
Pilot advertises a 10-cent-per-gallon gasoline offer that must be saved in the app at the beginning of the month and scanned at the pump.
App offers and challenges
The app can include food, drink, snack, and fuel offers that must be saved before checkout.
Military discount
Eligible customers who authenticate through ID.me can receive 10 percent off qualifying food and drink purchases.
Birthday offer
Pilot advertises a hot meal and drink benefit during the customer's birthday month, subject to the current rewards terms.
Missing Points Can Be Requested With the Fuel Receipt
Save every receipt until the rewards appear. Pilot directs customers with missing points to Transaction History in the app. Select Request Points and upload the receipt. Drivers who still need help can contact Pilot Guest Services at 877-866-7378.
Keeping both 14-gallon receipts is especially important. The first receipt documents the initial half shower, and the second receipt documents the additional half credit or the completed shower balance.

The half-shower behavior is not explained on Pilot's website, and many store employees only know the published 50-gallon commercial diesel rule. We have used the two-part 14-gallon method for years at locations across the country, and it continues to work for participating accounts and transactions.
Rewards systems can change. The safest approach is simple. Connect the commercial rewards account, complete the first 14-gallon purchase, and inspect the receipt. When the 0.5 shower appears, reconnect the card and complete the second purchase for at least 14 gallons. The two halves may provide one full shower credit after only 28 gallons of fuel.
